What are the shower curtains made of ?
Fabric content is specified on each shower curtain eg: vinyl, plastic, polyester cotton or polyester & cotton mix. (see details for each one by clicking on the small pictures in the online shop) Where curtains are specified as textile, we mean this as polyester cloth/fabric & not the plastic type eg vinyl, peva or pvc
All shower curtains are treated to be resistant to mildew and water in the shower and manufacturers have their own special treatments eg: Teflon, Fluorocarbon Anti bacterial etc.You will still need to wash or clean your curtain regularly at least monthly to maintain its appearance.
Please note – vinyl liners are not necessary with fabric curtains unless you have high water pressure, are using a power shower or the shower head is pointing directly at the curtain at close quarters. (in these cases you may need to use a liner or a vinyl shower curtain)
The majority of shower curtains have light weighted bottom hems except for the vinyl/plastic. One or two curtains are made from heavier weight fabric so don’t need weights – this is indicated in the product details.

Care of your shower curtain
Each manufacturer has their own recommendation for care of shower curtains. The fabric curtains in our online shop are gentle machine washable at 30/40 degrees.
Fabric curtains should be gently washed on a regular basis and drip dried. It is also important to stretch out to dry after every use and following these simple guidelines will help to avoid a build up of soap deposits and mildew.
Please resist the urge to tumble dry or use a hot iron on your shower curtain. Excessive heat can damage the special water resistant coating on the curtain and in the case of plastic shower curtains cause it to melt before your eyes ! New curtains soon lose their stiffness and the creases will drop out if allowed to drip dry.
It is generally the case that vinyl or plastic curtains & liners need only a wipe down or spraying every other week or so.
A cool iron can be used on the fabric curtains but should be avoided on plastic & vinyl – creases in new vinyl curtains will fall with use & respond well to the heat of a soaking in bath tub of hot water.
